As 2013 begins to blossom, I can’t help but feel grateful and the need to reflect on the 2012 wedding season. It was an awesome season in many ways. My passion for wedding design was heightened and strengthened by some incredibly lovely clients, a new assistant whose talent for organization, social media and knowing what I needed when I needed it and also a sweet and sharp intern who kept the office running smooth as silk.
To my dear couples; Ashley and Kevin, Katie and Matt, Miriam and Moe, Wanda and Stephen, Natalie and Rob, Katelyn and Brock, and Jacqueline and Matthew…I send you a warm congratulations! It was an honor for me, and my staff to design and coordinate your amazing weddings.
This year I had the pleasure to work with my dear friend Corinne, of Panacea Flowery to create two swoonworthy projects, a Great Gatsby inspired shoot and a romantic French stylized shoot that spoke to our love for all things French.  Our Great Gatsby inspiration shoot had major swoon factor (many thanks to photographer, Mike Larson) and was given lots of love from Style Me Pretty!

As was our French Gardeninspiration shoot…je t’aime Jake and Necia Odening Photography! As seen on: Style Unveiled and Grey Likes Weddings and much to our delight by a French blog: French Wedding Style. Merci beaucoup Monique!

Design Trends-

Loved playing with this rustic element this year. Burlap adds a texture you can’t really find with any other medium. It is hard and soft at the same time. I sewed this ruffed tablecrown for the French shoot. I also made these fun pennants, ring pillows and designed the escort cards (floating on a raft of hydrangea) with Necia Odening for Jacqueline and Matthew’s seaside nuptials.

Wood Guest Tables and Vintage Furniture!

I loved using natural wood tables this year for many reasons, the look of a dining room table evokes warmth and a feeling of family, you can easily sit 10 guests comfortably and runners add color but not weight. I kept Judi with Embellishments Vintage Rentals hopping this season. We could not get enough of the gorgeous items she has collected. They add charm beaucoup, a feeling of authenticity, character, texture and help tell the story.

Eclectic Vases

Gone are the days of an enormous vase standing between your mom and her friends at the table. I am loving the use of several vases on each table, it offers great impact and lush centerpieces without blocking the view. Using an eclectic assortment of vessels also adds dimension, lushness, and in this photo, allowed me to bring many elements of the sea to the design without being too “beach-y”.

This particular color palette was to most asked for combination in 2012 and is truly lovely. Can’t wait to see what happens this season.

So excited, here is our new logo, designed by Jake Odening. Love it!

Our new website will be launched in the next few weeks and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Looking forward to the new trends, new brides, new loves, new experiences, and new memories for twenty-thirteen!

My Best,

Vendor Spotlight: GYC Rentals and Grand Event Lighting

As I often say, a great planner is only as good as the vendors they work with. I have known Tom and Vanessa for twelve years and have watched both their family and businesses grow along with mine. I always receive great service and they often bend over backwards to ensure my events are successful. From gorgeous tents, beautiful rentals, to modern furniture and lovely lighting, they are always my go-to companies. Take a peek at just a few photos from our events together over the years.

Thanks to Tom, Vanessa, Sally, Kristen, Patrick, and all the crew at GYC Rentals and Grand Event Lighting for years of great service and quality rentals. Check them out at their facebook page for Grand Event Lighting and

Vendor Spotlight: Two Cooks Catering

“Wow!” is always my first response when tasting Russ and Heather’s food. That’s why I am pleased to spotlight them for the month of August!

There are many facets to being a brilliant catering company. Two Cooks has them all…starting with delicious food, prepared with local and fresh ingredients (they actually have local farmers grow particular kinds of lettuce for my upcoming weddings!). As well as being a great chef, Russ is a very talented baker as well. Their food is always presented simply and beautifully, competitively priced, served by competent and friendly servers, and followed up by great customer service!

Check out the delicious images below from our Great Gatsby photo shoot that they catered, which is now featured on Style Me Pretty!

As a wedding designer, of course I strive to create the most gorgeous wedding aesthetically but equally important to me is customizing a menu that reflects who you are, where your wedding is taking place, and the family and friends surrounding you. I am so pleased that Two Cooks feels the same. They have truly mastered creating a one of a kind menu.
Thank you Russ and Heather for all of your hard work. It is my pleasure to continue to recommend you to all my brides. I adore you….and your cuisine!

My Best,

Vendor Spotlight: Mike Larson Inc.

Mike Larson Photography was originally established by Mike in 1997, in Danville, California. Now operated with his wife, Rachel, their boutique studio is based on the Central Coast. Specializing in vineyard and estate weddings is something that sets Mike apart from the rest.

Mike and his adorable, Rachel!

I really feel like he is a genius in many ways. His generous spirit and thriving talent makes him a great colleague, and even better photographer.

So happy to have Mike photograph my clients, Jacqueline and Matt! We are excited for their seaside 7/7 wedding!

Mike also took part in our Great Gatsby stylized shoot in May. I look forward to sharing our images from our Great Gatsby shoot with you soon. He captured the warm opulence of the roaring 20’s perfectly, collecting detailed shots of my design and beautiful portraits of our sun kissed models, Danny and Trea. They turned out as gorgeous as they sound!

Only Mike could capture this amazing shot from a past wedding of ours. Take a look at the reception in full swing and that lighting!

Stay tuned for the posting of our Great Gatsby images, but until then to see more of Mike’s stunning work visit,

Vendor Spotlight: Panacea Flowery

Here at Mark Padgett Wedding Design, we l-o-v-e our florals. There is no better compliment to my event design then a lush head table arrangement and stunning bridal bouquet. One of my favorite vendors happens to be my good friend, Corinne Smith. Corinne is the proud owner of Panacea Flowery, and specializes in French florals for the every day bride. In fact, she adores all things French and her trips to Paris (with moi, of course!) inspire her lifestyle and design.

My gorgeous bride, Kristie’s bouquet.

Often times, we work hand in hand to bring my design vision to life, as we adorn the reception and ceremony site with accents of greenery and blooms. I adore her contemporary creativity yet timeless approach to her designs. And she’s got a great sense of humor too…which is always a plus on wedding days!

An exclusive sneak peek at our latest stylized shoot featuring MPWD, Panacea Flowery and Mike Larson Photography. Forgive me for this iPhone photo, Mike! 🙂

It has been a joy collaborating with Corinne over the years, and I look forward to many more. I can’t wait for our stylized shoot (guess the theme!) on June 18th. Stay tuned, dear girls!

My Best,

Welcome, Maddy!

Let me introduce my new assistant for the Summer; Miss Maddy!
Maddy endured several interviews and had to shadow me on an event before I told her (what I pretty much knew at our first meeting) that she had the perfect combination to assist myself and our fab clients: amazing attitude, keen intelligence, quick wit, gorgeous sense of style, good sense of humor and a strong back!
Madeline (Maddy) Spellerberg is a full time student at Chapman University in Orange, CA, majoring in Television and Broadcast Journalism. At Chapman, she stays busy, as an anchor and reporter for Chapman News, Event Coordinator for the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and as an assistant for the Special Events office. Since moving to California in 2007, she has also worked with Amorology Weddings, a full service event design and coordination company in San Diego.  When she’s not juggling school or work, she can be found cheering on the San Diego Chargers, perusing her favorite wedding blogs, or tweeting at @madelinedodd.
Maddy will be a great addition to the team, and I look forward to having her for the summer!
